Vitalik Buterin Makes Statement About Ethereum’s New Major Update

Ethereum (ETH) co-founder Vitalik Buterin argued that the upcoming update will play a critical role in scaling the network. Buterin noted that Fusaka's key feature, PeerDAS technology, enables the verification and reconstruction of blocks without the need to store all the data. Buterin said that the number of blobs will be increased cautiously initially, while PeerDAS will be the key to layer-2 (L2) expansion first, followed by layer-1 (L1) scaling in the long term. Explaining how PeerDAS works, Buterin explained that each node verifies that more than 50% of the data is accessible by requesting only a small portion of the data, known as “chunks.” In this case, the node can reconstruct the missing data using erasure coding. He explained that these only occurred during the initial broadcast and the rebuilding of missing blocks. However, he added that it would be sufficient for these processes to be carried out by a single, trusted institution or individual, and that these functions could be distributed over time through cell-level messaging and distributed block construction. Buterin stated that despite years of development, developers have been quite cautious in testing the technology due to its innovative nature. He explained that the number of blobs will be limited initially and gradually increased later, and that PeerDAS is a key element of Ethereum's L2 scaling and future L1 expansion. *This is not investment advice.
