Artificial Intelligence - A New ERA

Success in creating AI would be the biggest event in human history. Unfortunately, it might also be the last, unless we learn how to avoid the risks
                                  -Stephen Hawking-

Artificial intelligence is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially by computers. It can perform tasks associated with human intelligence, such as making predictions, interpreting speech, and identifying objects. Undoubtedly, Artificial intelligence has created a place in human life, and today it has become an important part of human life. Humans invented artificial intelligence to make their work feasible and fast. The journey of artificial intelligence starts with the invention of computers. It works away in learning, planning and problem-solving. A man only has to put his query and the solution will be ready in front of him in a few minutes which could take hours if humans by themselves do it. For example to prepare a long sheet and a database if we do it manually then it may take hours and sometimes days but with the help of a computer, it can be easily formed in minutes. These all are the magic of computers. It is not wrong to say that humans have created an artificial human for themselves. When computers were invented they would be out of the reach of a layman and his routine life was far from artificial intelligence. As time passed Artificial intelligence has expanded its scope. It has paved its feet into the Medical, Education, Economics, Defence, technology and Science sectors. In the last few years, the scope of AI has expanded a lot. AI is now in layman’s pocket through mobile phones. Humans are rapidly using AI. Smartwatches, smartphones, and Laptops are good examples of it. Through the machine learning process AI collects the personal data, personal choices, and likes of humans and then performs tasks accordingly. AI track the activity of humans through mobile from morning to night. As it is attached to human activities it helps the various sectors to reach humans according to their thoughts and views. For example, advertisements on mobile phones are suggested to an individual by tracking his activity and choice. AI is not confined only to entertainment gadgets, Business and industry sectors are getting a lot of benefits from the AI. Today share market trading is done through mobile applications with the help of AI. Bots of AI automatically trade the share by raising and down its price and providing profits to the humans. AI robots are being used in the factories to assemble the goods and machinery. The automobile sector has shocked the world by using AI in the car driving system. Recently ADAS(Advanced Driving Assistance System) was launched, This system reduces accident cases with the help of AI. It detects the obstacles or errors of the driver and then gives the command to the driver and vehicle. AI is like an elixir for the education sector. It enhances the learning skills of a student through personalized learning, Automation and language translation. A company named OpenAI has launched software named ChatGPT which astonished the world, It is completely AI-based software that can generate human-like responses to questions and prompts in real-time. Recently Punjab and Haryana High Court used the ChatGPT software in a Bail matter. This elucidates how much AI has entered our life. It is not wrong to say that human life is gradually depending on AI. Today every sector is connecting with AI and wants to take benefits of it. But it is not like that AI has only advantages. The exaggerated use of AI has brought some disadvantages with it. One of the main disadvantages is seen in the job sector. According to Goldman’s economic publication, AI could lead to 300 million jobs lost globally, around 9% of all jobs worldwide. On the other hand world economic form says that AI will create 97 million new jobs. An economist says that “AI is not a job killer it is a job category killer”. Undoubtedly job loss is a big issue today due to the use of AI because it performs a task without any manpower and at a meager cost. Every sector wants to adopt it for more production at a lower cost. Today with the help of AI the same portrait can be drawn which would be drawn by an artist. The graphic designer is losing their jobs as AI can create graphics and designs faster. ATMs have taken the role of cashiers in the bank. Automatic vending machines have usurped the jobs of sellers. Recently finance minister has stated upon the panic condition of job loss due to AI “AI needs human intervention, it is not going to operate on its own”. If we make a combined study of analysis of the reports and present scenario going on in the world we will find that. “AI will not take the jobs, The person who knows AI will take the job”. A rapidly growing AI is the future of technology and advancement so it is not possible to exclude AI from the system and the world. It will be better if we change ourselves according to the AI system and learn it. Today no company wants to hire a person who does not know how to operate a computer same will be true in the future with AI, A person who doesn’t know the use of AI will not be considered a suitable candidate for the job. If he learns and makes himself familiar with the AI then he will not lose his job. No matter how advanced AI would become still it will need the help of humans to operate. AI has also become a tool for cybercrime. Perpetrators are using AI for phishing, and money-related fraud. A report published by an Australian newspaper depicts that 87% of money-related fraud has been committed with the help of AI by using the voice recognition process. AI has advantages but its disadvantages need to be curbed. It can be curbed by introducing special laws regarding AI. Japan has introduced guidelines for to use of AI in the school. A recent incident of an obscene deep fake image of an actress created by AI and published on social media platforms has brought the attention of the IT ministry to regulate the laws of AI, However, currently, it is regulated under the Information Technology Act but now it seems that a special act is needed. The top IT ministry official said India will regulate AI but not at the cost of innovation. In an Abstract we can understand Whether the AI is a bane or boon depends on us.
